Thousand Steps to Hags Rump

This is a difficult 5-mile hike with limited trail, rock hopping, and a touch greenbriar. However the views are stunning and it showcases more of the work the quarrymen did decades ago in addition to Thousand Steps. People planning to attend must wear sturdy shoes, bring water, and some may want to use hiking poles. Long pants are recommended too.

Here's a description of the hike... first go up Thousand Steps and then over to Ledge Quarry to check out the view of Mapleton. The we walk the SST about a mile to the first switch back and exit the trail. After a short walk on an old trail, we get to the other side of the hollow and there is a boulder field if anyone wants to see it. Then we walk a short distance to an old dinkey grade to see a great view up the Juniata River Valley. From there, we come back to take an old road for a little ways until we reach the point of the ridge where there are cliffs to look back at Ledge Quarry. After checking that out, we get back on the old road which goes over to the dinkey grades on the other ridge. From here we descend over rocks to cross several dinkey grades and quarry areas until we reach the top of the incline. We can see another great view looking down the Juniata River Valley before descending the incline to reach the SST again which takes us back to Thousand Steps
